Charles D. Kennedy letters to his family, [187-]-1888.

Fifty-two ALS, most written by Kennedy to his parents, C. W. and Fanny Kennedy, and brothers and sisters in Swan Creek, Ohio. Four letters, [187-] and 1877-1878, were written by Kennedy from Louisiana, from the train he took between San Francisco and Oregon, and from Portland immediately after his arrival. Forty-two letters, 1878-1888, concern his life in Oregon, discussing his work on river boats and as a train conductor for the Oregon Railway and Navigation Company and the Oregon Pacific Railroad; land owned by him near Waldport; and reports of his and Ida's illnesses and other family news. Other letters are a few ALS to C. W. and Fanny Kennedy from Ida Kennedy, 1882 and undated; an ALS to C. W. and Fanny from Emory Campbell, Charles Kennedy's cousin, also employed by the Oregon Railway and Navigation Company, 1881; and an ALS to "Dear Cousin and All," from Louella Russell, 1886. Also present is a poem, written in holograph and signed by A. J. and Emma Kennedy, a brother and sister of Charles Kennedy, undated.
